Description
Sion is one of the established dressage sires in Oldenburg breeding and continues the successful line of sire Sultan. Sion is a Dutch breeding product from the well-known Trichta line (NL-029). As a result, Sion is closely related to the Grand Prix horses De Niro (by Calvados) ridden by Peter Wylde, Vent du Nord (by Canadian River) ridden by Kate Levy and Portofino (by Habsburg) ridden by Michael Whitaker. On the dam’s side, this Sir Oldenburg carries the first class genes of the Holstein foundation sire Contender (by Calypso II). In the third generation, Holsteins showjumping blood has been added again by the stallion Tin Rocco (by Tin Rod xx-Roman), best known as the sire of the famous showjumper Let’s Go ridden by Roelof Bril.
The line on the dam’s side then goes back via the thoroughbred stallion Apollo xx to the Gelderland mare Gunetta (Alex x Ritmeester). Great-granddam Gunetta II (by Apollo xx) is also known as the dam of the Oldenburg stallion Grand Slam (by Grandios) who was successful in dressage. Sport horses from this line include: Rubllit (Grand Prix), Sattrick (Z-dressage) Visconte, Vuldai and the approved stallion Grand Slam. As a 3-year-old, Sir Oldenburg was champion of the young stallions in Rastede.
As a 4-year-old he was vice-champion in Rastede and won a bronze medal with Heiko Klausing at the Bundes Championship in Wahrendorf. As a 5- and 6-year-old he was also a finalist at the Bundes championaship for dressage stallions. In 2006 Sir Oldenburg had a very high dressage index with 144 points and this made him one of the 5% best dressage sires in Germany. Moreover, he already has 8 approved sons, including the well-known premium stallion Sir Willy.
