Fourth in the WBFSH ranking of the world’s best dressage sires

He has taken the sport to a whole new dimension – and is now succeeding in doing the same in breeding: Totilas. His first offspring have reached the big championship stages in record time and have already sent him to fourth place in the WBFSH ranking of the world’s best dressage sires. At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo/JPN, he was the sire of three competitors, including Glock’s Total U.S./Edward Gal/NED, placed sixth individually, and Go Legend/Marlies van Baalen/NED, placed fifth with the Dutch team. A record-breaking number of five of his offspring competed at the 2022 World Championships in Herning/DEN, such as Torveslettens Titanium RS2/Marieke van der Putten/NED, who came fifth by team and who subsequently won the World Cup Grand Prix of Mechelen/BEL, Birkhof’s Topas FBW/Victoria Max-Theurer/AUT and our Burg Cup and Louisdor Prize winner Total Hope OLD/Isabel Freese/NOR. All three of them are amongst the crowd of over 30 stallions sired by Totilas, just like the aforementioned Glock’s Total U.S. and Glock’s Toto Jr. N.O.P./both Edward Gal/NED, Governor-STR/Adelinde Cornelissen/NED, who was double Vice World Champion of young dressage horses and placed fifth by team at the European Championships, Top Gear OLD/Isabel Freese, who came fourth in the Burg Cup, Thiago GS/Matthias Alexander Rath, who is victorious in Grand Prix, Total McLaren, who was bronze medallist twice at the German Championships, and the second most expensive Hanoverian premium stallion Take That, with a knockdown price of 370,000 euros. The list of international Grand Prix winners could easily be extended: Te Quiero SF/ Franziska Fries/AUT, Genuine/Marijke van Giesen/NED, Straight Horse Don Tamino/Philine Brunner/SUI and Turbo/Sorrell Klatzko/IRL, to name but a few.

Total Recall, record-price auction foal, sold for €200,000, has already won international competitions with Matthias Alexander Rath. Total Ideal cost €105,000 and Tout le Monde cost €90,000 at the Vechta auctions. In 2019, Totilas also produced the Champion Filly at the German Foal Championships in Lienen. True Love OLD was second Reserve Champion Mare of Oldenburg, German Vice Champion and is successful up to St. Georges with Matthias Alexander Rath.

Three world records and three gold medals at the World Equestrian Games – Totilas can only be described with superlatives. With his performances in the dressage arena, he has touched people far beyond the sport of dressage and ensured a previously unknown popularity. With Edward Gal, Totilas won Team Gold, Silver in the Special and Gold in the Freestyle at the European Championships in Windsor/GBR in 2009 and set world records in the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle. Later that year, Totilas beat his own record in the Freestyle in London/GBR. In 2010, he won the World Cup final in -Hertogenbosch/NED. At the CHIO Aachen, he set another world record in the Special: the judges awarded the perfect score of 10 an incredible 28 times. In 2010, at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington/USA, Totilas was part of the gold medal Dutch team and won two individual gold medals. Then Matthias Alexander Rath took over the ride and, in 2011, Totilas was the best horse of the German silver medallist team at the European Championships in Rotterdam/NED. In 2012, he won two silver medals at the German Championships, in the Special and the Kür. In 2015, he won Team Bronze at the European Championships in Aachen.

His sire Gribaldi was Trakehner Champion Stallion, victorious at Grand Prix level with Edward Gal/NED and Trakehner Stallion of the Year in 2008. In the Netherlands, he was honoured with the top predicate “preferent” and led the WBFSH ranking of the best dressage sires in the world in 2014. Amongst his offspring are the World Cup winner Painted Black I/Anky van Grunsven/NED and the Grand Prix winners Sisther de Jeu/Edward Gal/NED, Peter Pan/Beatriz Ferrer-Salat/ESP, Pasternak/Coby van Baalen/NED and Girasol/Nadine Capellmann. The Trakehner Champion Stallion Imhotep and the Reserve Champion All Inclusive stand out amongst over 30 licensed sons of Gribaldi registered in Germany.

His dam Lominka also produced an intermediate (M) level and an advanced (S) level dressage horse, as well as Totilas’ full sister Uusminka.

From his grand-dam Elsa come the advanced (S) level dressage horses Talan and Uljanoff.

With Glendale, Akteur, Pericles xx and Farn, Holstein blood is present on the maternal side of the pedigree.

The famous Dutch line of Freiminka produced numerous internationally highly successful sport horses and, amongst others, the licensed stallions Lochnagar, Iowa/Emma Wester/SWE, Cordess/Christian Kukuk, Olympic W, Try Time, Topas, Jodokus and Vindicator.

A legend of his own!
